Coaching for sporty kids

THOUSANDS of South Yorkshire children are to get sporty thanks to a new initiative by a coaching company.

The Active Regen programme should reach around 9,000 young people across the county.

The firm has linked up with councils, businesses, schools and community organisations to provide a range of sports and activities.

Rotherham entrepreneur Gary Whitaker is behind the firm that is providing 12 months of sports and activity programme in Aston, Aughton, Mexborough, Barnburgh, Eastwood, Thurcroft, Kiveton Park, Wales, Woodthorpe and Wybourn - with more planned for the future.

“Each programme is specifically tailored to the needs of the local community,” said Gary.

And up to 100 young people not in education, employment or training, will be given the opportunity of a job with a sports coaching organisation while gaining a qualification in community sports coaching.
