Club aiming to end their home campaign on high

Sheffield FC experienced striker Brian Cusworth set to return against Goole AFC after injury.

Club will, at the very least, want to finish at home on a winning note after a difficult season - particularly at the Coach & Horses ground, where they’ve won just five games.

“We want to finish on a positive note with a win against Goole,” said boss James Colliver. “The supporters have come through the door week in, week out and got behind us, I think we owe them a performance and a victory to send them into the summer with a smile on their face.

“We’ve got three games left so let’s see if we can get two wins, or even three. We can then regroup and look to have a good pre-season. I can see what we need for next season and I’ve already started putting plans down.”

Colliver admitted it’s been tougher than he had first expected. “I thought when I came in we would pick up a few wins and gain a bit of momentum going into the end of the season,” he said.

“I think in fairness we’ve played a lot of teams that have had something to play for. The likes of Shaw Lane Aquaforce, Lincoln City, Leek Town, Coalville Town and Rugby Town, when we’ve come up against them, have all been chasing promotion.

“Its a learning curve, this is a difficult league. You only have to look at our opponents’ manager, Lee Morris. He took over at Goole just before I came to Sheffield. Lee has a lot of experience at Evo-Stik level but even he’s found it tough since taking charge.”

Colliver should be boosted by the return of the experienced Brian Cusworth, after the striker missed the last two games with a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Stocksbridge Park Steels visit Loughborough Dynamo looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven games after an extraordinary week for the Bracken Moor club.

Steels needed a stoppage time equaliser to salvage a point from a 4-4 home draw against Romulus last weekend and then, on Tuesday, the nine-men Steels won 2-0 at Spalding United.

They currently sit seventh in the table after picking up 14 points from the last 18 available, and boss Chris Hilton said: “Its been a crazy week, really.”
