YOUNG rock climbers have thanked the rescue team which saved them after an accident.

Jimmy Hyland and Jamie Fisher fell to the bottom of a climb called The Prow near Leek, each suffering facial and wrist injuries and Jamie a broken ankle.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team evacuated the boys by stretcher.

To thank the team they decided to raise money by getting sponsored to take part in the Matlock to Cromford Raft Race on Boxing Day.

A total of £2,068 was presented to the team.

Vice chairman Eric Needham said: “This is an amazing amount of money to have raised for the team and we are extremely grateful.”
