Cliffhanger festival to be held in Sheffield city centre

Organisers of the event, which celebrates its 10th anniversary, say they plan to turn the city centre into an adventure playground next weekend.

The festival, which celebrates the great outdoors, features the British Bouldering Championships and there is the chance to try a range of activities, including climbing and skateboarding.

In previous years the event has been held in Sheffield parks, but this year it will start with live music on Friday, July 8 and an action packed itinerary over Saturday and Sunday with events in Devonshire Green, Barkers Pool, the Peace Gardens and the Winter Garden.

This year admission to the event is free.

Councillor Leigh Bramall, Deputy Leader and cabinet member for business and economy at Sheffield Council, said: “People come to Sheffield from across the UK each year for Cliffhanger, an action-packed weekend which perfectly showcases Sheffield’s excellence as the UK’s premier Outdoor City.

“And, with Sheffield being the UK’s leading destination for people seeking outdoor adventure, city culture and rural escapes, relocating the festival to the centre of The Outdoor City brings all of that together.

“I look forward to seeing people of all ages and abilities testing their limits, trying new activities and enjoying the great outdoors – in a unique urban environment.”
