Clegg target of campaign

Have your say

WE’VE had ‘Cleggzilla’ - now opponents of Nick Clegg are attempting to caricature him as Little Britain character Vicky Pollard.

The bizarre idea comes from campaign group The People’s Pledge, which wants a referendum on membership of the European Union.

They say the Hallam MP and Deputy Prime Minister changed his mind on whether a referendum should be held on the Lisbon Treaty, an agreement towards a European constitution.

An actor dressed as the TV show character, famous for her ‘Yeah But, No But’ catchphrase, was sent out to tour Mr Clegg’s Sheffield constituency dressed as ‘Cleggy Pollard’ with a poster van yesterday afternoon and this morning as voters went to the polls.

A spokesman for The People’s Pledge campaign said: “Mr Clegg changes his mind at frequent intervals. You just can’t take anything he says at face value.”

Last year, Sheffield trade unions paid for a poster depicting the Lib Dem leader as ‘Cleggzilla’ with the slogan ‘Bringing Havoc to a City Near You’ due to the Government’s cuts.
