Tributes continue to pour in to the talented 14-year-old, from Malin Bridge, who died in the early hours of Tuesday - three days after falling suddenly ill during a national title bout in Leeds.

A fundraising page set up to support his family had passed the £4,000 mark by Wednesday afternoon, with parents of his former adversaries among more than 200 donors.

Ian Lockley wrote on the JustGiving page: "Real shame about this kid, fought my son last year.... he was a classy fighter."

Another contributor, who wished to remain anonymous, wrote: "Gutted for the boy and his family. Fought my lad 2 years ago and seemed a genuinely nice kid."

Charlotte Rowlett, who knew Scott and launched the appeal to support his family, said she was 'overwhelmed' by the response.

She added that the 'amazing' sum raised was 'a glimpse into just how many people care (for) and love Scott'.

Sheffield Wednesday will pay their respects to the fighter, known as 'Scotty', when they play Reading at Hillsborough this Friday.

The club said it would include a tribute in their matchday programme and display a special message on the big screen before the game and at half-time.

Scott attended Forge Valley School in Stannington, where headteacher Dale Barrowclough described him as a 'popular young man' who had 'a very bright sporting future ahead of him'.

Amy Lenoir, who said he had been one of her students, wrote on Facebook: "It is heartbreaking. I can't believe it. He was a very bright student. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace."

Scott was a member of Marsden's All Styles Kickboxing Club, which is based at Hillsborough Arena, Hillsborough Park, and is run by his father Simon and uncle Darren.

He had won national and international titles, and those who had watched him in action spoke glowingly of his ability.

Terry Beedham wrote on Facebook: "A really talented sportsman ... good footballer and a fine kickboxer ... had the pleasure of watching him from a young age and used to take one of my young boys down to spar with Scotty at MAS ... go fight in the sky now Scotty .. RIP young warrior."

Dan Peacock, also writing on Facebook, said: "RIP Scotty I saw you in many of your fights, you were a very talented young fighter and a cracking young lad fly safe mate x."
