Classes in '˜Fall Prevention' for elderly in community

A Derbyshire fitness centre has launched '˜Fall Prevention' classes, to help prevent costly fractures in people over the age of 60.

Woodland Fitness Centre, in Dronfield, hopes the classes will help to reduce the number of slips and falls amongst the elderly and most vulnerable in society, making them feel safer and more in control of their bodies when walking around and carrying out daily chores.

According to Age UK a third of all people aged over 65 fall every year, with many resulting in a hip fracture which costs the NHS around £2 billion every year.

The classes, which will focus on improving core muscle function, balance and co-ordination, will begin on February 11 from 12.30pm-1.30pm. Call 01246 290040 to book a place.
