City workshop led by famous composer

A one-day singing workshop, hoested by one of the country's leading composers of choral music, will be held in Sheffield later this year.

Choral singers from across the region are invited to sign up for the session, led by composer Bob Chilcott and organised by the Sheffield Oratorio Chorus.

Bob, whose works are widely performed all over the world, will be accompanied on the day by Joshua Hales, acting director of music at Sheffield Cathedral, and the Sheffield Oratorio Chorus’ regular rehearsal pianist.

Oratorio music director Alan Eost said: “This promises to be an exciting opportunity, both for our own members and for singers from other choirs. We are exceptionally fortunate to be welcoming one of the country’s most distinguished choral composers to Sheffield and we are looking forward to a productive and hugely enjoyable event.

“It’s always a pleasure when singers from so many very different choirs get together to share a whole day of music-making.”

The event will be held on Saturday September 10 at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church on Upper Hanover Street. Registration will begin at 10am and the day will end with an informal closing concert at 5pm.

Alan added: “Although September may seem a long way away, we know from experience that an event like this tends to get booked up very quickly, so it is not too early to be signing up for the workshop now.”
