A FINANCIAL advisor from Sheffield is to appear on Panorama tonight as part of an exposé of High Street banks.

Sheffield-born Louise Oliver, of the Taylor Oliver Partnership, near Chesterfield, was asked to appear on the BBC programme as an expert.

Ms Oliver, a former High Storrs schoolgirl with over 25 years’ experience in finance, said both she and business partner Steve Taylor were contacted to ask if they would offer their expertise on the way banks dealt with undercover investors.

She said: “They purported to be novice investors who had inherited £90,000 and were looking for advice from banks as to a suitable place to put their money.

“Their meetings were filmed and we were given the transcripts to read through. We found that rules that advice must be ‘clear’ were not well adhered to.”

She said many advisors failed to explain the risk involved in investments.

Ms Oliver said she believes there is a place for banks giving out financial advice but that staff need more training.

n The episode, called Can You Trust Your Bank? airs at 8.30pm tonight.
