Cigarettes were stolen during an overnight raid of a village shop in Rotherham.

A police probe is under way but the raiders have not yet been caught.

The shop has been targeted before and in one incident, in April 2012, a man armed with a gun and wearing a balaclava burst in demanding cash and cigarettes.

In January 2011, the owner was confronted by three masked raiders brandishing crowbars.

Cash and cigarettes were stolen and a customer was struck over the head by one of the offenders.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "At around 1.05am on Wednesday, it was reported that suspects unknown forced entry into the shop via a front window and stole a quantity of cigarettes."
