A Christmas party is to be hosted for Sheffield’s elderly to try to alleviate the pain of loneliness.
The event is to be held at Hillsborough Stadium on Sunday, December 13.
Volunteers behind the party hope to host up to 125 elderly guests.
There will be a Christmas sing-a-long and musical entertainment.
A Christmas buffet will also be prepared for the guests.
It is hoped that Father Christmas will present each guest with a gift.
Transport to and from the event can be arranged.
Organiser Sarah Bridge said: “I am hoping for this to become an annual event but I also hope to create the opportunity for some of our elderly guests to form friendships so that they have a support network all year round.”
Volunteers to help at the event are needed, along with food for a buffet and Christmas hampers, Christmas tree decorations, table decorations and small gifts for the guests.
They can be dropped off at Sheffield Hallam Student’s Union on Paternoster Row, with weekly collections planned.
