Christmas lights switch-on event

Have your say

Christmas is officially kicking off in Rotherham with the colour, excitement and sounds of the annual lights switch-on in All Saints’ Square.

The traditional annual event takes place on Thursday, November 15, from 4.30pm, and is expected to attract 8,000 revellers.

Music will be provided by 2011 The X Factor finalists, 2 Shoes, who will be taking to the stage at about 5.35pm.

They will be performing their new song Turn Me On (Turn Me Out) and other hits.

On stage before 2 Shoes will be boy band Rewind, as well as Bruvvas Blue, with their tribute to the legendary Blues Brothers.

Joining them to round off the evening’s entertainment will be the cast of this year’s panto at the Civic Theatre, Peter Pan, and singers from Nicky Lynam’s School of Performing Arts.

At 6pm, Coun Dave Pickering, Rotherham mayor, together with his grandchildren, will switch on the lights.

To complement the celebrations, Santa will be setting up home in a grotto by Boots.

There will also be children’s rides and a Christmas gift market in the town centre from noon.
