CHRISTMAS may be two months away but a Sheffield community organisation and schoolchildren have joined forces to put together festive hampers for elderly people.
Woodthorpe Development Trust has joined forces with Woodthorpe Primary School to organise the operation, collecting donations of food which will be delivered to needy pensioners in the area.
Ryszard Szumski, of Woodthorpe Development Trust, said: “Food donations made by children attending Woodthorpe Community Primary School for their Harvest Festival celebrations are being re-packaged by staff at Woodthorpe Development Trust in shoe boxes donated by Wynsors Shoes.”
Karen Dineen, manager of Woodthorpe Development Trust, said: “The generosity of people in Woodthorpe is amazing, especially in these tough times. We are looking forward to giving our older community members something to smile about this Christmas time.
“The hampers will be distributed by our development workers to needy people identified by agencies working in the local area.”
