Chinese street stall in Sheffield rejected

PLANS for a street stall selling Chinese fast food have been rejected by Sheffield Council’s licensing board.

Shasha Wu and Xingguang Liu, of Crookes, applied to site a trailer on Portobello, off West Street, but Sheffield University was unhappy about litter and the potential obstruction of a fire exit from the St George’s Church lecture theatre.

Meanwhile, highways officers said the stall would have caused difficulties for pedestrians using the pavement.

Coun John Robson, licensing committee chairman, said: “Others grounds for refusal were the couple wanted to keep the trailer there 24 hours a day, which would have required planning permission. We admired their entrepreneurial spirit, however, and suggested they look for an alternative site.”
