The team tasked with the job of transforming Doncaster Council’s embattled children’s services department has started its work.
Transformational partner iMPOWER and new Director of Children’s Services Eleanor Brazil have both started in their roles to turn around the department which has struggled to improve at a quick enough rate and undergone a series of crises.
The new team aims to ‘help add capacity, innovation, pace and discipline’ - and will start by reviewing the council’s existing improvement plan.
Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones said: “I have made it clear from day one as mayor that my top priority is children’s services and safeguarding our young people.
“It has been obvious that we needed additional support to get our children’s services back on track. We can drive through the necessary improvement and give our residents and young people a service they deserve and can trust in.
“This is a turning point for the council and its children’s services.”
Eleanor Brazil said: “I am delighted to be here in Doncaster to help transform its children’s services. Through building a strong and focused team where all of our partners and staff support and improve how they work together, we can collectively improve children’s and young people’s lives for the better.
“Improvement of this scale will not happen overnight but by having the appropriate strategic direction, additional capacity and commitment to improve, I am confident we can make significant progress towards achieving our goal.”
Max Wide of iMPOWER added: “We are really pleased to be working with Eleanor and the staff of Doncaster to improve outcomes for children and families.”
