Chesterfield's old magistrates' court still on the market

The derelict Grade II listed building, which is located between Rose Hill and West Bars, received planning consent last year allowing it to be used for a variety of purposes including office, retail and leisure facilities.

Stuart Waite, associate director at Innes England in Derby, who is handling lettings on behalf of a private client, said: “We’ve got close with a number of occupiers and are still actively marketing the building.

“However, the costs associated with any refurbishment have been largely prohibitive up to this point.

“There are funds available to invest should the right occupier come along and it makes economic sense,” he added.

Designed by Professor Joseph Stanley Allen, a renowned architect, planner and academic, the building was completed in 1956 and became Grade II listed in 1998.

It has stood empty for the last few years and become a hotspot for vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
