Chesterfield's Moo Bar to REOPEN

At a meeting yesterday, Chesterfield Borough Council's licensing committee heard that the bar’s management have put in place tougher policies and procedures to address issues over the way it was being run - and agreed to lift the suspension of its licence.

These include policies and procedures around:

- Underage sales and checking the age of customers

- Dispersal of customers

- Searching customers

- Door staff

- Vulnerability and safely home policy

- Admission and ejection of customers

- Co-operation with the authorities, such as reporting crime and incidents

- Drunkenness

- Disorderly behaviour

- Drugs

- Staff training.

The Corporation Street nightspot's licence was suspended in the summer following several 'violent incidents'.

Councillor Lisa-Marie Derbyshire, chair of the committee which held the hearing, said: "At our last licensing hearing, we gave a commitment to review the suspension of Moo Bar’s licence if they carried out a series of improvements.

"This suspension was taken very seriously and the licensee worked very closely with the police and the licensing committee to put measures in place to ensure public safety is paramount when customers visit this bar in the future.

"We are satisfied that steps have been put in place by the licensee to review the policies in place at the bar. Moo Bar is now able to reopen."

A borough council spokesman added: "The bar will be monitored to ensure it is meeting the standards set out in the policies and procedures.

"This will include the licensee carrying out a random audit of the CCTV system each week. The findings of the audit will be recorded in a diary kept by the premises' licence holder, which the police and licensing officers can inspect at any time."
