A Chesterfield woman in training for the Paris marathon next month is to cycle the 400 miles from her home to the start line.

Cate Read, aged 45, is raising cash for the Meningitis Research Foundation in memory of her brother, Euan, who died of meningitis in 1994 at the age of 26.

She said: “Twenty years ago I tragically lost my brother, Euan, to bacterial meningitis. He was 18 months older than me and a lively and well-loved character.

“I loved him as my brother and friend, and I knew I could turn to him anytime for advice or help and vice versa. Since that time I have missed him terribly. He left behind a little girl, Aisling, and his partner Fiona was pregnant with their second daughter, Poppy.”
