Klare Forman, 35, of Kingsley Avenue, Grangewood, Chesterfield, was spotted on CCTV shoplifting in B&M Bargains, at Ravenside Retail Park, and was brought to justice after also stealing from Boots, at Low Pavements, according to a Chesterfield magistrates’ court hearing on Tuesday, January 26..

Prosecuting solicitor Rod Chapman said: “The B&M offence was captured on CCTV on October 4, last year, showing her selecting a bottle of perfume from a shelf and putting it in a bag and leaving without paying. She was not detained or arrested at this stage.

“But on November 13, last year, she entered Boots and selected two bottles of fragrance and removed the wrappers and left the store without making any payment. These good were later recovered.”

Forman was arrested and told police she could not remember the B&M offence but accepted that if she was on the CCTV footage she must have done it to fund her drug habit.

The defendant, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to the two thefts.

Defence solicitor Annette Thomas said Forman has had problems with heroin and there had been a “slip” because of difficulties with her partner.

However, Miss Thomas added that Forman has begun positive steps to change her life and is taking heroin substitute methadone and has recorded negative test results for heroin.

Magistrates opted to sentence Forman to a 12 month conditional discharge but warned that she would be resentenced for this offence if she committed any further crimes.

Forman was also ordered to pay £9.99 compensation to B&M Bargains.
