Glenn Hodkinson, aged 63, from Bolsover, entered the competition to win four weeks of free Stagecoach travel and have his photograph feature on bus posters after seeing it advertised on his regular bus journey to Chesterfield.

The competition was held as part of the Stagecoach Cares campaign. Customers were asked to send in real life stories explaining how they use Stagecoach buses to look after the things they care about.

In addition, carer Dan Bray, who uses Stagecoach Yorkshire buses to help his clients enjoy days out in Barnsley and Sheffield mum Sara Wellum also won four weeks’ free travel as part of the competition.

Glenn said: “Two things I really enjoy are travelling on buses and entering competitions, so as soon as I saw the competition advertised I knew I had to give it a go.

“When I was told I had won I was over the moon.

“Seeing my face on buses will be a strange experience but I’m really looking forward to it. I think my granddaughter is more excited than me though, she can’t wait.”

As well as running the competition, the Stagecoach Cares campaign saw staff take to Chesterfield town centre to hand out goodies, hear real life customer stories – and give out hugs to passers-by.

Fellow winner Sara Wellum uses Stagecoach buses and trams to travel to and from medical appointments, visit family and to get to work.

She said: “I mainly use the 120 route; we have a great service and one that takes me from home to the hospital.

“I also travel by bus to visit my parents who are both ill, to visit family, and I usually use the bus for work as well.

“I saw the competition and I just wanted to say what value for money the weekly savers were. It feels great to win as for four weeks I’m going to be saving over £50.”

Carer Dan Bray said: “I have used Stagecoach buses to take clients I was looking after to places like the Metrodome and Monk Bretton.

“One of the clients was in a wheelchair and the Stagecoach drivers were always really helpful, friendly and very professional – they always offer to help as much as they can. I’ll use the free travel prize to get me to things like football matches and other leisure activities and hobbies I enjoy.”
