Chesterfield: Fans rally for Burton trip

Chesterfield travel to Burton Albion tomorrow evening (7.45pm) certain to be buoyed by a decent following, writes Phil Tooley.

Despite three consecutive defeats, over 750 tickets have been sold for the trip to face Nigel Clough’s league leaders.

Just over 100 tickets for the away end remained unsold yesterday.

The Pirelli Stadium was the venue of Chesterfield’s promotion clinching 2-0 victory, featuring a brace from Jay O’Shea, in 2014.

Danny Wilson will be sweating on the availability of Lee Novak and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who picked up knocks in the defeat against Peterborough United last week.

He may be looking to bring in reinforcements in the emergency loan window as his team looks to extend the one-point gap to the dreaded drop zone.

One man definitely missing from the squad will be defender Charlie Raglan.

Head of Sports Science, Rodger Wylde, said: “Charlie underwent a sportsman’s hernia operation to the left side of his body, it’s a routine procedure but one that it was decided was necessary for the player to get over his problem.

“Initial feedback shows that the area was dilated and this operation usually cures the issue totally and guards against the same problem returning in the future.

“With Charlie now back with us we’ve entered the early rehab as he looks to get back and fit again.

“If everything progresses well, he should be back in squad contention in three to four weeks.

“The stage we’re in now Charlie is starting to work on his posture and his pelvic control with the intensity stepping up over time.”

Ian Evatt and Dan Jones both have ankle injuries and are ruled out, while Angel Martinez is recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.

The Spireites have lost to Peterborough, Milwall and Wigan in their last three games.
