Check tunnels on trail winter walks

Have your say

WALKERS enjoying winter on the Peak District’s Monsal Trail are urged to check its tunnels are open before setting out.

Log on to to make sure tunnels are not closed because of ice or maintenance problems caused by a cold snap.

The Peak District National Park Authority, which manages the Monsal Trail stretching 20km from Blackwell Mill cottages to Bakewell, is monitoring tunnels regularly but warns it may have to shut them at short notice for safety reasons.

People are also advised to carry a torch as lights in some of the tunnels go off at 4.30pm.
