Cheaper mobile calls in Europe

REGIONAL Euro MP Edward McMillan-Scott has welcomed a move by the European Parliament to reduce the cost of using mobiles and smartphones while abroad

Since 2007, EU regulations have gradually introduced price caps on cross-border mobile phone calls and text messages and established guarantees against ‘bill shocks’.

Now, the European Parliament’s industry committee has voted to replace current rules, which expire in June, with even lower price caps on cross-border mobile phone charges to bring them closer to domestic charges.

Mr McMillan-Scott, Liberal Democrat MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “It’s good news for local people and businesses in the region.”
