Charity's open day to showcase partners

Sporting Force launched in the city last year, to support injured and sick serving and ex-serving men and women of the armed forces.

And now the city charity has teamed up with Sheffield United and National Citizen Service to offer further employability programmes, work placements, voluntary opportunities and places as team leaders and mentors over the summer months with NCS.

Jacqui Nicholson, operations and bid funding manager for Sporting Force, said: “Working in partnership with professional sport clubs we offer work placements to the wounded, injured and sick serving and ex-serving men and women of the armed forces.

“We understand how daunting life in the civilian world can be, particularly when a cherished life in the military comes to an abrupt end. Sporting Force takes every step side by side with those ‘heroes’ during what can seem an impossible transition.

“We are on hand whatever the stage of recovery the individual is at and even if they are not yet ready to begin a new career we will work with you to prepare for when the time is right. We help with every aspect of a work placement from CV’s to interviews and even after securing a successful result we will always be on hand, whenever they need us.”

The charity will be holding an open day, on February 18, to launch its new partnerships. The event will include presentations by Tommy Lowther and Gary Webb, of Sheffield United, a kick-around on the pitch and lunch before heading to Bramall Lane Stadium to watch a match.
