Charity wants people to sleep rough

Have your say

fancy a night out with a difference?

You’ll need a sleeping bag, a pillow, several layers of warm clothing and lots of fortitude if you want to take part in the Sleep Easy 2012 event in Doncaster.

The YMCA in Doncaster is joining others across the country to organise the sleep out event to raise funds for its work and highlight the issue of people who are forced to sleep rough.

Doncaster YMCA is inviting local people to register for the event, which takes place at St Peter in Chains RC Church on Chequer Road, on Saturday, January 28.

It starts at 8pm and finishes early the following morning.

Participants will take part in fun activities and will spend time challenging themselves on a cold January night as the charity highlights some if the issues surrounding youth homelessness in the borough.

Louise Roffey, chief executive of Doncaster YMCA, said: “We are really excited to be taking part in YMCA Sleep Easy this winter.

“We hope lots of people from the community will get involved, either by sleeping out, volunteering or sponsoring the event in some way.

“These type of community events are a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of some of the issues our young people face, and they provide vital funds to enable us to continue supporting the young people who need us most.”

It is the third consecutive year that Doncaster YMCA has run a Sleep Easy event and all funds will go directly to support the work of the YMCA.
