Just before Christmas the 2016 Masters winner met a four-year-old South African girl suffering from cancer while he took part in an annual tradition of switching on the Christmas tree lights at a golf tournament in Sun City.

Danny, 28, was there as the champion of the Nedbank Golf Challenge from the previous year and met Sune Klopper, who was being helped by the Reach for a Dream Foundation for children with serious medical conditions.

Shortly afterwards the golfer donated 100,000 South African Rand (£4,783.21) to the family to help with their medical costs and assist with expenses incurred due to Sune’s illness.

Less than two weeks after they met Sune died, but her parents told the charity they were really grateful for Danny’s gesture.

The charity’s marketing and communications manager Bronwyn Feldwick-Davis said: “The family were genuinely completely in awe of his generous donation and were so grateful for it.”

Speaking about Danny’s Masters victory yesterday (Sunday, April 10) she added: “We are really pleased for Danny - it is good to know that such a great guy won.”
