THE Citizens Advice service has taken over the Consumer Direct helpline following Government budget cuts.
The phone line was transferred out of the Office of Fair Trading in a move that slashed the regulator’s budget by a reported £8.7m.
The CAB is keeping the old Consumer Direct number – 08454 04 05 06 – and offers an online service at www.adviceguide.org.uk
It addresses consumer problems and advises how to solve them – and gives background information on consumer law and consumers’ rights.
Like Consumer Direct, the Citizens Advice consumer service will refer complex consumer issues and potentially criminal activities to Trading Standards.
