Charity bonanza at Hillsborough Park and Rother Valley Park duathlons

Around 250 people took part in two duathlons to raise money for charity.

The first Sheffield Duathlon, organised by Momentum Events - Hallam University students Emily Brett, Jenny Bullock, Emily Bush and Megan Cormick - raised £5,000 for Age UK, Sheffield.

There were 39 participants in the Go-Tri# event in the morning at a soggy Hillsborough Park, and the afternoonfamilty event saw 51 people take part.

The morning event, which encouraged first-time duathletes, was won by Alfie Manthorpe, who finished in under 29 minutes. Also prominent was fellow 17-year-old Julian Slater.

Ten-year-old Rudi May was first in the shorter family race in an impressive 14mins 51 sec.

And over 150 athletes from as far afield as Durham and Liverpool competed in the Rother Valley Series Duathlon in support of Help for Heroes at Rother Valley Country Park.

Organised by Retford-based TLS Events, the event saw first timers and seasoned athletes compete side-by-side to complete the run, bike, run course over sprint and standard distances of 5km, 24.5km, 2.5km and 10km, 40km and 5km respectively.

Matthew Nelson, Tri Camp TFN Race Team, was first male and Fionn Kerry, Holmfirth Harriers, first female in the sprint race with Liam Walker, University of Sheffield Triathlon taking the top spot for men in the standard distance and Naomi Keira Wright, Manchester Triathlon Club, coming top amongst the women.

The TriStars Start (age 8) race was won by Joshua Sundin and Annabelle Taylor. TriStar 1 (age 9-10) winners were Emma Poulston, Mersey Trim and William Brown. In TriStar 2 (11-12) Alex Poulston, Mersey Tri, and Emma Forsyth triumphed with Ethan Roberts-Cutts and Hannah Lonsdale taking first place in the TriStar 3 ( 13-14) race.
