Charity fundraiser Matt Kennedy is to pedal across the Pennines in a 106-mile ride from Blackpool to Sheffield.

The 30-year-old, from Treeton, is being joined by friends for the journey, starting this Saturday, August 10.

The journey will start from Blackpool Tower and take them through the Peak District with the finishing line at The Sportsman pub in Lodge Moor, Sheffield.

Matt, who works at recruitment agency Gi Group’s Chesterfield branch, is supporting charity Fairplay, a children’s disability support charity.

He said: “I saw first-hand the great work Fairplay was doing when I was involved in an Easter Egg Run earlier this year organised by Gi Group, so I was inspired to get involved and do something that would help.

“I have a small child myself and would like to know that centres such as this are running should I ever need support.”

Matt has set up a webpage - - to collect sponsorship and is hoping to raise more than £500. He is also organising a ‘welcome back’ party at The Sportsman this Sunday, August 11, to collect further money.
