Charity benefits from supermarket opening

A dozen jobs are being created thanks to the opening of a new supermarket.

The Tesco Express store, will open on High Street, Old Whittington, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, a week today.

To mark the occasion, Tesco is donating £500 to the town’s Ashgate Hospice.

Representatives from the hospice have been invited to cut the ribbon at the store’s official opening.

The store’s manager, Simon Cawar, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Ashgate Hospice as they do such wonderful work for the local community.

“We are delighted that they are coming to launch the new store and join in the celebrations with us.

He added: ““I am really pleased with my new team and I’m looking forward to working with them.

“In this time of economic uncertainty, it is great that we are able to create jobs for our local community and help get people back into work.”

The doors of the new Tesco Express will open for the first time at 8am on Tuesday, April 23. The official opening ceremony and cheque presentation will take place later that morning at 10.30am.

The new Tesco Express store will be open seven days a week from 6am until 11pm.
