Chance to learn emergency first aid for babies, in Rotherham

The three-hour course by St John Ambulance is in response to research that showed only a quarter of parents know how to act if their baby stops breathing.

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for babies is different from adult CPR, in that only two fingers should be used to pump a baby’s chest and its nose and mouth must be covered by the rescuer’s mouth to give life saving puffs.

The course on March 18 costs £25+VAT and covers key first aid emergencies for babies and toddlers.

St John Ambulance regional director, Simon Dunn, said: “We know that a major barrier to parents learning is that baby CPR frightens them, so we’ve made it as reassuring as possible by making a new video.
