Sheffield Wednesday could be preparing to make an audacious move for Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, who has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

The Sun report that a number of Premier League clubs and the Owls are monitoring the defender and could make a bid for his services during the January transfer window.

Wednesday are said to be interested in the boyhood Owls fan along with Cahill's former club Aston Villa.

Meanwhile Leeds United could also be chasing a sentimental move for Liverpool midfielder James Milner.

The Daily Star report that Milner would be open to a move to his boyhood club if they return to the Premier League as Liverpool are yet to offer him a new contract and his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Free agents Bakary Sako and Steven Caulker are said to be close to sealing moves to Championship clubs, with ex-Crystal Palace man Sako expected to join West Brom and Caulker currently training with Wigan Athletic.

Aston Villa are due to continue negotiating new contracts with key squad members after wrapping up a deal with Jack Grealish earlier this week, with James Chester next on the list. (Birmingham Mail).
