Forest Green Rovers manager Mark Cooper is reportedly a contender for the role, although interim manager and Smith's former assistant Thomas Frank is thought to be the front runner.

Aston Villa could be in line for a new transfer policy under Smith, who says he won't just splash the cash to bring success to the club.

New players must have the right attitude and show potential to be considered by the Villa chief.
