Champ backs cycling event

SHEFFIELD world mountain bike champ Steve Peat is helping to organise a downhill race in aid of an appeal to save his old stomping ground Greno Woods.

The mini downhill race will feature a track open to riders of all abilities aged 10 or over.

All profits will go directly to the Wildlife Trust’s Greno Woods Appeal, which aims to raise £1m to buy the woods and manage them for the benefit of wildlife and for people to enjoy.

The race is on Saturday March 5 at Greno Woods in Grenoside, Sheffield.

Organisers have told competitors and spectators the event will be signposted from the Forestry Commission car park on Woodhead Road.

Registration is from 8.30am to 10am, practice sessions are from 9am to midday and the races start at 12.30pm.
