SOUTH Yorkshire Police Authority chairman Charles Perryman has been re-elected into the role.

He will oversee the process of handing over control of the county’s police force to the county’s first ever Police and Crime Commissioner, to be elected in November.

Councillor Shaun Wright remains as vice-chairman of the authority, while Coun May Noble, Coun Talib Hussain and Coun Helen Mirfin-Boukouris have become members.

Sheffield-based Mr Perryman, who has been a member of the authority for the last 13 years and was appointed chairman in 2007, said: “The coming months will be an important period to establish key groundwork for when the commissioner takes over responsibility for the county’s police force.”
