Ceremony to be held in Barnsley to remember those killed at work

A ceremony is being held in Barnsley today to remember those who have lost their lives in work-related accidents and illnesses.

The event has been organised as part of Workers’ Memorial Day, which is held annually to pay respects to those who have died and to raise whilst awareness of safety issues at work.

Local dignitaries including Mayor Tim Shepherd, politicians and representatives from unions and campaign groups are due to attend.

The event in Barnsley has been organised by Barnsley Trades Council and Raleys Solicitors.

John Welch, a partner with Raleys, said: “Workers’ Memorial Day is an event where people join together in remembrance of those who have lost their lives whilst trying to make a living.”

The event is to be held at the Cenotaph at 12.30pm.
