Centre for homeless and vulnerable in Sheffield celebrates 25th anniversary

The Sunday Centre at Victoria Hall Methodist Church was set up to bridge the gap when the support services the homeless and vulnerable rely on during the week close for the weekend.

It provides tea and coffee, social activities and a hot lunch between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Steve Clark, chairman of the project, said: “The Sunday Centre was set up to meet a need for a safe, friendly place for homeless and other vulnerable people to come.

“Twenty-five years later, there would still be people in our city who would miss out on company and a good hot meal without us.”

The centre typically caters for 60-80 guests each week, including the homeless, those with mental health conditions and others struggling with alcohol or debt issues.

The centre is run by volunteers and paid for through donations.

It is planning a celebration event.
