Central to our success

Are we Sheffielders guilty of not appreciating what we've got?

Our Pride in Sheffield is still sparking massive reaction. The usual responses are, about time, thank goodness somebody is speaking out, and how can we help The Star drive this forward.

But there have also been a minority of people remarking with a wry grin that the city has more than its fair share of people who are happier moaning than moving forward.

I would love to reply that we have more than our fair share to moan about – but actually there is only one way to respond.

Sheffielders must keep on supporting our city, pushing for change and demanding more.

As long as you do, I’ll give you a voice and do exactly the same.

Nick Simmonite, manager of the Frog and Parrot in Division Street. sums it up: “Instead of resting on our laurels we need to market ourselves beyond the city limits. But we also have a lot of people within the city who haven’t been in town for ages.”

Even good isn’t good enough, but things are improving at a fair pace.

Go on, nip into town for an evening out – you just might be surprised.

At the very least you’ll be much better informed next time you choose to have a moan.
