DETAILS of celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee have been announced in Chesterfield.

The first will be the lighting of a beacon at 10pm on Monday, June 4, at Pools Brook Country Park - part of a national event to light more than 2,000 beacons across the UK.

On June 5 there will be a celebration concert at The Winding Wheel featuring Chesterfield Symphony Orchestra and Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir.

A steel Diamond Sculpture will be installed at Queen’s Park.

Staveley-based company Sterling Machinery has offered to make the sculpture, which will have 60 facets each with a short sentence about an event during the 60 years of the Queen’s reign.

Chesterfield Action for Arts Forum plans to create a time capsule to celebrate Chesterfield in 2012, while Revolution House at Old Whittington will hold a ‘Royal Chesterfield’ exhibition until September 30.

Other planned events include a reception with the Mayor of Chesterfield for all couples celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary in 2012.
