Celebrating half a century’s care

ONE of Sheffield’s oldest residential care homes celebrates its 50th anniversary this week.

Castelayn Care Home at Leighton Drive, Gleadless – part of the chain of 11 SheffCare homes – was officially opened on May 18 1962 by Lord Mayor of Sheffield Alderman JW Sterland.

And the current Lord Mayor, Coun John Campbell, will be the guest of honour when the home marks its special birthday exactly half a century later on Friday.

Coun Campbell will meet residents, staff, family and friends and there will also be a buffet tea party and a special birthday cake as well as entertainment from Dave Roberts.

Castelayn manager, Jacqui Blaver, said: “We are so proud to have reached this landmark in our history. To mark the occasion, we’re producing a special 50th anniversary brochure as a memento.”
