‘Sheffield: Football Through The Ages’ will see primary and secondary school pupils in the city creating artwork, to reflect the city’s football heritage.

The winning artwork will be exhibited in the National Football Museum, whilst 20 shortlisted entries will be displayed on The Moor. The successful pupils’ classes will also win an art master-class with artist Paul Trevillion.

Known as the ‘Leonardo of Line Drawing,’ British sports artist Paul Trevillion has immortalised players from Pele to Messi in career spanning 60 years. Paul was at Dore Primary School in Sheffield last week to launch the competition, which he will also judge.

Keith Hackett, director of international football tournament Youdan Trophy in Sheffield, which launched the art competition, said: “There are so many footballing firsts in Sheffield but this remarkable heritage is largely unknown to the general public. We decided to launch this exciting arts initiative to allow school children in the city to learn about and celebrate this rich heritage.”
