Celebrating Art House
Celebrations were held at the Art House recently to mark its first birthday, which coincided with the launch of the Herd of Sheffield sculpture trail.
The Art House team celebratedwith elephant workshops, tasters and demo sessions, encouraging participants to donate to The Children’s Hospital Charity.
Among those marking the special occasion was 18-month-old Theo, a regular patient at Sheffield Children’s Hospital who was born at 35 weeks weighing just four pounds 12 ounces.
“Theo was born not able to breath but luckily the staff at the hospital worked quickly, got him breathing again and there was no long term damage done,” said Amelie, Theo’s mum.
“He’s been in hospital four times recently with respiratory problems, but he’s got an inhaler now and is trying new medication.
“It’s been brilliant seeing the elephants and knowing that the money raised is going to Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The hospital might not affect your life right now but it’s only in the past few years that it’s become such a massive part of mine. We’re so lucky to have it in our city.”
Arts and wellbeing co-ordinator for the Art House, Ali Kitley-Jones, added: “It’s been amazing being involved in the Herd. We’ve had lots of children coming to see their own Little Herd elephant and people are just delighted with them.”
