Cat Rutland needs a new home in South Yorkshire

Two-year-old Rutland was amongst a group of 11 that were rescued from a home in February where the owner was not tending to their needs.

They were taken to the RSPCA Sheffield Animal Centre in Attercliffe and staff are now urging potential new owners to come forward.

Adam Spencer, of the centre, said: “They were all in quite poor condition on arrival, many suffering from flu, full of fleas and lice and quite underweight.

“On top of that, they were very frightened and scared and didn’t really trust us very much - who can blame them.

“Many had to have treatment for flu symptoms, some had to have dental operations and all had to be thoroughly fleaed and wormed.

“The staff who care for them have been working very hard to gain their trust and to show them that not all humans are bad and we have really seen so much improvement in confidence and happiness of this group.

“They are finally ready to start their search for their forever homes and we really hope that it won`t take too long - they have been through so much and deserve to find extra special homes and quickly.

“Any potential adopters need to be aware that these cats may possibly be flu carriers and therefore may from time to time have flare ups that require vet treatment to keep them feeling happy and healthy.”

He added: “Rutland was one of the most nervous in the group when he came to us and it took him a little time to settle in and start to trust the people who care for him.

“You wouldn`t recognise Rutland now from the nervous lad that arrived here.

“With the staff he knows, he is affectionate and friendly and is also gaining confidence with new people that he meets - we are so proud of his progress.

“He is looking for a home with no young children, if any.

“Rutland really deserves to have his fortunes turned around. Could you give one of our needier cats a loving, safe and forever home?”

Members of the public are also being urged to enter an open art competition to help pay for the running of the centre.
