In one raid in Woodhouse Lane, Beighton, the door locks were broken off a uPVC door and a number of watches were stolen from inside.

Cash and jewellery were stolen from a house in Rainbow Avenue, Hackenthorpe and at some point between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning last week offenders broke into a shed in Twickenham Glade, Halfway, to steal a number of power tools.

A burglar broke into a house in Lowedges Crescent, Lowdges, after the patio doors were smashed to gain entry and another raided a house in Grove Road, Millhouses, after a window was left insecure.

Investigations are also underway into burglaries in Whirlowdale Road, Whirlow and Lupton Road, Lowedges.

A shed was broken into in Rowan Tree Dell, Totley.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Attention is often given by residents to the reinforcement of shed and garage locks but we can often find the structure of the building is weak or rotten in places.

"This allows for easy access by means of prising panels off or lifting up sections of the roof without needing to touch any locks.

"On a regular basis check all the way round your sheds and garages and carry out any maintenance repairs to ensure the structure is sound and resilient to attack.

"Consider chaining valuables inside such as lawnmowers, power tools and pedal cycles together with a heavy chain and closed shackle lock."
