FIFTEEN suspects have appeared in court over an alleged ‘cash for crash’ scam.

The group are accused of taking part in a scam which netted them tens of thousands of pounds, with allegations they conspired together to defraud insurance companies between January and July 2011.

The case – dubbed Operation Lollipop – involves a South Yorkshire Police investigation into the activities of an accident claims company called City Claims 4 U, based on Pitsmoor Road, Sheffield.

Inquiries began after a bus collided with the rear of a car on Scott Road, Burngreave, Sheffield, in June 2011.

It is alleged the scam involved fraudulent claims being submitted to insurance companies, and false claims for the hiring out of replacement vehicles made under the name Rent a Car 4 U, using invoices headed CCC Hire 4 U.
