Cash blowing in the wind for community

The town has been approached by the South Yorkshire Community Foundation, which runs the Tween Bridge Wind Farm Community Benefits Fund, in a bid to find groups who would be able to use grants within the community.

In a letter to Thorne Moorends Town Council, the foundation states: “The Tween Bridge Wind Farm Community Benefit fund has now been running for a while and the donor, E-on, have asked us to work with the community to identify a one off capital project which offers real scope to enhance the community facilities within the Thorne and Moorends area.

“If your group owns its own building, or has a long lease and is seeking to enhance the facilities for the local community, speak to us about a capital grant of up to £25,000.”

Since the completion of the Tween Bridge Wind Farm E.ON has committed to providing grant funding for communities close to the development.

Grants are normally from £1,000 up to £5,000, although grants of more than £5,000 may be considered in exceptional circumstances.

But the organisation says itare now offering a ‘unique opportunity’ to gain a capital grant of up to £25,000 to a project which offers a clear and real scope to enhance community facilities within the Thorne and Moorends area.

The scheme is open to Thorne and Moorends, plus arts of Hatfield, Hatfield Woodhouse, Sandtoft, Fosterhouses, Stainforth, Ealand, Fishlake, Crowle and Belton and other settlements within a three-mile radius of the wind farm
