Cartons can be recycled

NEW recycling banks are coming to Barnsley for people to deposit empty food and drink cartons.

The council is running a trial of carton recycling banks at its four household waste recycling centres. The new banks are for paper-based liquid food and drinks cartons, used for fruit juice, milk, smoothies and soups.

The waste recycling centres are at Smithies, Goldthorpe, Penistone and Worsbrough. The cartons - which should be washed and squashed before being deposited - can be turned into plasterboard liner, high-strength paper bags and envelopes once recycled.
