Carlton Gala in Barnsley has been called off this weekend because of the bad weather forecast for today.

Organisers announced yesterday the event is to move dates.

The area is expected to be hit with heavy rain and potential thunderstorms over the course of today.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Monk Bretton ward councillor Ken Richardson said: “Due to extreme weather warnings forecast, it has been decided to postpone Carlton Gala until Saturday, August, 30, from 12noon to 3pm, in Carlton Park.”

He added organisers offer their sincere apologies to anyone inconvenienced by the postponement.

The rearranged gala will feature pony rides, bouncy castles, face painting and displays from birds of prey. There will be touch rugby and fairground rides.

Barnsley Brass Band are also due to perform.
