Car with toddler inside stolen from Sheffield street

Thieves stole a car in Sheffield - while a two-year-old child was sat inside.

The crooks had been helping to push a car out of some mud on Berners Road, Arbourthorne, when they jumped in and drove off in it.

South Yorkshire Police said the car was later found abandoned a short distance away - with the child still inside.

The incident was reported to the force yesterday lunchtime.

A force spokesman said: "A car was stolen with the owners two-year-old child sat inside it on Berners Road, Arbourthorne, yesterday.

"The offenders, who had been helping the owner push the vehicle free from some mud, then decided to jump in and drive away with it.

"The car and child were located a short distance away and two individuals were arrested from the scene for the theft of a motor vehicle. Further enquiries are ongoing at this time."
