Car park to ease pain

Anyone who has ever tried to find a parking space near the Children’s Hospital must surely welcome today’s news that a new multi-storey car park is to be built.

It is stressful enough when you are visiting a hospital – particularly when it involves children – without the added nightmare of knowing there is little chance of being able to leave the car anywhere near. It is all well and good encouraging more people to use public transport but there are some times when you just need to get somewhere as quickly and conveniently as possible. Our wonderful Children’s Hospital is one of those places. If those who object to the scheme don’t believe us then trying driving round the block several times while your child is in pain. It is no joke and families in Sheffield have faced that predicament for far too long. Encourage them to walk to school, take the bus to the shops and tram to visit friends – but when your destination is a hospital, parking should be the very least of your worries.

Splash for tiniest tots

They have a combined age of 240 but the dynamic Tadpoles have proven that you can raise money for charity no matter how old or young. The fundraisers swam a total of seven miles to boost the coffers of the Special Care Baby Unit at Jessop Hospital. The youngest Sheffielders being given a helping hand by some of the city’s more mature residents ... now there is a case that breaks down age stereotypes if ever we saw one.
